Letter to the Editor:
Anyone who has walked Medford Square since December has seen the scaffolding outside our store. We are grateful for all the customers who have continued to support us during these last 4 months. The upper floors of the building are being transformed from office space to residential living. It has been 10 years since we first signed our contract leasing the old retail space to fulfill our dream of owning a bookstore café. In the ten years, we confirmed our beliefs that Medford did want an independent, community-oriented bookstore and we have seen many changes in the square and in Medford.
On May 1, 2007, Bestsellers Café will begin a complete renovation of our interior space. It’s exciting to see the building's project as the forefront of the Medford Square Revitalization movement. As part of the building’s renovation, Bestsellers Café will require several months of remodeling. The remodeled Bestsellers Café will have many new features including French doors overlooking the Mystic River. We will do what we can to maintain the charm that attracted us to 24 High Street ten years ago.
We, as well as our entire staff, will miss so many people while we are closed for renovations. We have always been proud to be an integral part of the local community and will continue to be involved in the future—whenever we are able. Our plans for the release of the last Harry Potter novel are underway and still planned for Friday July 20th. We hope our remodeling will be completed so our celebration can be at our store. As always, we will update everyone as plans for the magical celebration are cemented. If you haven’t reserved your copy yet—you can stop in, call us at 781-391-7171 or send an email to info@bestsellers-cafe.com. We will continue to update the community of our Harry Potter plans.
In an effort to shrink our inventory before the contents of our store are put into storage, we will discount our in-stock books at 30% off retail price for all hardcovers and 20% discount for all paperbacks. This Renovation Sale will last until April 30th and give everyone the chance to stock up on your reading material. We don’t look forward to the daunting task of closing for a few months but we acknowledge the long-term benefits of reopening our store as we honor 10 years in Medford Square.
Frequent updates will be found on our website, www.bestsellers-cafe.com, where anyone can sign up to be part of our growing email list. We are planning a Grand Re-Opening celebration when the renovations are completed.
We are truly blessed to have the support and patronage of the community by individuals who believe in the betterment of Medford. Thank you for your past support and here's looking towards the future of an improved Bestsellers Café and Medford Square.
Sincerely,
Rob & Marianne Dilman
